"The Old Has Gone"

2 Corinthians 5:15, 17-18 "He died for everyone so that those who receive His new life will no longer live for themselves.  Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.  This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.  The old life is gone; a new life has begun!  And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ."

B.  Do you like who you are?

C.  Throughout Scripture, in the New Testament, there is this common theme where the old life is gone and there is a new life that can be found in Jesus Christ.

     1.  Where does our OLD self come from?

          a.  My Sinful Nature

Romans 5:12 "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned."

          b.  My Environment

Romans 12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

          c.  My Pattern of Decisions

2 Corinthians 5:17 "This is what is true of the old life, that if you are in Christ, the old is gone, the new life has begun."

 2.  Where does the NEW "self" life come from?

          a.  Jesus is our Reset Button

             -  Jesus is the one who changes us and gives us the new beginning.  2 Corinthians 5:18 "That all of this is a gift from God."

          b.  2 Corinthians 5:21 "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might be the righteousness of God."

          c.  When Paul says in verse 17 "the old has gone," he is saying that through Christ's death on the cross, the old was "killed."  The old was "buried."

CONCLUSION:  Jesus wants you to discover the life He has for you in Him
